Friday, May 9th the City of Zeeland presented the Feel the Zeel project at a Michigan Municipal League Regional Conference in Cedar Springs. Attending cities were invited to present recent projects that had a significant impact on their communities. Other projects that were presented at this conference included a brand new Farmer's Market Pavilion in Fremont and a rehabbed Community Theater in White Hall. The projects were voted on by conference attendees and the outcome of the vote awarded the City of Zeeland with a Community Excellence Award for Feel the Zeel. Winning this award is an automatic invitation to present the project again at the 2008 Michigan Municipal League Annual Convention on Mackinac Island in October. This round of presentations will include six finalists from six regions in the state. At the state conference, voting will also be conducted by peer communities. The project with the most votes will receive a state-wide honor for their outstanding project. Not only does Zeeland have a strong chance of winning this state recognition for the Community Excellence Award-Race for the Cup, but it is also a great opportunity to spread ZEEL around the mitten since this conference will be attended by an estimated 700 people, including state-wide city and elected officials and state staff.
