The Walk for Water

"It's not fair! We just have to go to the sink!"

After finding out in 2007 at the age of 8 that other girls her age spend hours every day walking to collect water, Greta Z along with her family started the Walk for Water.

The Walk for Water lets you experience what others in our world do every day.

Clean water is essential for life, but one in eight of the world's population does not have access to it. This, and lack of safe sanitation, result in over two million people dying from water-related diseases every year.

Come and join ‘Team Z’ - The Walk for Water begins at 11:00 am @ Huizenga Park in Zeeland on Saturday, March 21st 2009.

The walking course: 1.2 miles east to gather 10 (adult) or 4 (child) liters of water and then carry that water back to the starting point.

Children's Book Night @ the Library

In honor of “March is Reading Month”, we are planning a Children’s Book Expo at the library. It will be a night of fun for the whole family. Members of the community have volunteered to show off children’s books through music, crafts, demonstrations and other activities.

Talk with meteorologist Laura Velasquez, listen to a barbershop quartet, practice yo-yo tricks, watch a puppet show, see a hedgehog, learn about vintage baseball from the Douglas Dutchers, race pinewood derby cars, meet Coast Guard members and make several cool crafts. These are just some of the many activities that will be featured at the Expo. Visit the booths for a chance to win one of the featured books.

We hope to see you at the Howard Miller Library in Zeeland on Tuesday, March 10. You can come anytime between 5:30 to 7:30 p.m, but if you don’t want to miss out, come early! The fun is FREE! Supper will be available for purchase.
Call the library at 772-0874 for more details.
